A celebration of youth-driven innovation, collaboration, and social impact
For the sixth consecutive year, the Better Community Club at the American University in Bulgaria brought together purpose-driven young people for one of the most inspiring social entrepreneurship events in the country: Innovation Station vol.6: The Prophecy of Grain and Gold.
This annual ideathon has become more than just a competition. It is a living ecosystem of collaboration where 12 teams of young innovators work intensively to address 12 real-life challenges provided by NGOs, guided by mentors from civil society and the business sector. Over the course of the event, ideas evolve into actionable solutions—rooted in empathy, creativity, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Where ideas meet real-world impact
At its core, Innovation Station is about bridging the gap between youth potential and societal needs. Each participating NGO brings a case study reflecting a real challenge—whether related to sustainability, education, inclusion, or community development. This year, the topics tackled by the teams reflected a wide spectrum of pressing societal issues, including providing better educational opportunities, advancing animal rights, promoting gender equality, creating opportunities for vulnerable people, improving well-being, designing inclusive cultural initiatives, and developing sustainable tourism solutions that respect both local communities and nature. These are not hypothetical exercises; they are invitations to co-create solutions that can be implemented beyond the event.
What makes this format powerful is the continuous interaction between teams and mentors. Participants don’t work in isolation—they engage in ongoing dialogue with NGO representatives, professionals, and experts, refining their ideas through feedback, iteration, and reflection. This year, that collaboration reached a new level.
A year of exceptional dedication and co-creation
For Zarika Association, Innovation Station has been a long-term journey. Over the past three years, the organization has contributed by providing case studies and mentoring teams. In 2026, however, Zarika’s representatives stepped into a new role—as part of the jury panel.
This shift offered a unique perspective.
From the judges’ seat, one thing became immediately clear:
the level of commitment, preparation, and collaboration among teams had never been higher.
Participants worked closely with their mentors throughout the process, demonstrating not only strong ideas but also deep understanding of the challenges and stakeholders involved. The result? A jury faced with one of the hardest tasks—selecting winners among solutions that were all thoughtful, relevant, and impactful.
More importantly, being part of the evaluation process revealed something even more valuable than the final pitches:
the beauty of co-creation.
Innovation Station is not just about teams presenting ideas. It is about a dynamic network where:
- young people bring fresh perspectives
- mentors guide and challenge thinking
- NGOs provide real-world context
- organizers create the space for it all to happen
- and even beneficiaries indirectly shape the solutions
It is this collective effort that transforms the ideathon into a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
The Collective Leadership Retreat: A special award from Zarika
Inspired by the energy and quality of the solutions presented, Zarika introduced a special recognition this year:

Set in the natural surroundings of Bansko, this retreat is designed as an immersive experience combining:
- collaborative leadership practices
- teamwork and shared decision-making
- nature and cultural immersion
Originally planned as a single award, the jury faced an unexpected challenge—there were simply too many outstanding teams.
In the spirit of appreciation and encouragement, Zarika made a spontaneous decision: to grant two awards instead of one.
This gesture reflects not only the high level of the participants but also a broader belief—that investing in young changemakers is always worth multiplying.
Raising the bar for social entrepreneurship
With each edition, Innovation Station continues to raise expectations for what youth-led initiatives can achieve. The combination of:
- real-life challenges
- structured mentorship
- interdisciplinary teamwork
- and a strong community spirit
creates an environment where innovation is not just encouraged—it is inevitable.
For Zarika, being part of this journey has sparked something more than admiration. It has inspired a vision.
After years of involvement, the organization is now dreaming of expanding this model—developing similar social entrepreneurship ideathons at local, regional, and national levels, addressing diverse community challenges.
And yet, one thing remains clear: Innovation Station has set the bar remarkably high.
That is why future plans naturally point toward collaboration. Zarika envisions working together with the Better Community Club to co-create new spaces for innovation, building on the experience, quality, and spirit that Innovation Station has already established.
Beyond an event: a movement in the making
Innovation Station vol.6 was not just another edition—it was a testament to what happens when young people are trusted with real responsibility, supported by strong mentorship, and united by a shared purpose.
It showed that:
- meaningful solutions come from collaboration, not competition
- learning happens through doing, reflecting, and iterating
